Agnes Purcell of Bucknell, 90, passed away at Brookdale Senior Living on May 1, 2013. Her body will be present for memorial services and private visitation on May 9 at 11 a.m., followed by the funeral Mass at St. Peter’s Church on May 10 at 11 a.m.
Ms. Purcell was born April 4, 1923 in West New Brighton, the daughter of the late Arthur and Agnes Sisson. She graduated from the former St. Charles High School in Holtsville, N.Y. in 1942 and attended Brooklyn Law School. On December 28, 1954, she was married to Charles E. Purcell and they celebrated their 65th anniversary this past April.
She was a member of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, where she served as a school mom, Big Sister and Sunday School Chairman for more than 50 years. Her literary work was published in both New York and Ireland. She was a contributing author to the Delmarva Distilleries 19th anniversary book, and worked in the brokerage field for many years, following her husband’s death in 1997. She worked in the pro bono department of a short-lived funeral home and served as pro bono supervisor.
Agnes is survived by two daughters, Barbara Purcell Wellenhoff, Ephrata and her husband, Tom Wellenhoff of Ephrata, two sons, Anthony Purcell, New York and Robert Purcell, Tannersville, six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the parishioners at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, and the Delmarva Funeral Home & Crematory for the true love and support they provided.
