After a decent amount of time spent installing the application on your system, you are ready to fire it up. Thanks to the office suite like interface, all of its features are cleverly organized in categories. At a first look, it looks easy enough to use, but the abundance of features it comes equipped with leaves room for second thoughts.

Part 1: Introduction to AutoCAD
AutoCAD is the most powerful desktop drafting application on the market. Its user interface is easy to learn, and users can start immediately using it without much training. It offers many features to help AutoCAD users get the most from their creative projects.
AutoCAD is available in two editions, AutoCAD LT and AutoCAD for Windows. Both editions share the same capabilities, and both editions can be used together in the same drawing. The new 2018 AutoCAD version runs on Windows 10 and macOS.
Both editions are sold on the Autodesk website, and AutoCAD LT is available for free download. AutoCAD LT, while initially designed for users of AutoCAD, is easily used with other software tools such as 3ds Max, Inventor, Revit, Maya, and more.
Many users prefer AutoCAD for Windows over AutoCAD LT, since they can use 3D objects and geometric modeling in their drawings. AutoCAD LT can be used in place of AutoCAD for Windows if a user wants to start with a very simple drawing or have limited access to certain Autodesk products.
The rest of this article provides an introduction to AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT, and covers AutoCAD basics and terminology. We will also show how to start a new drawing using the 2D or 3D drawing canvas.
AutoCAD basics and terminology
AutoCAD is a very powerful desktop design and drafting application, and there are many features to be aware of. This first part of the AutoCAD tutorial covers some basics and terminology that help you learn AutoCAD faster.
The articles in this AutoCAD tutorial series use the same terminology. However, the articles will not cover every feature in AutoCAD, and each article will focus on a particular topic that is helpful for you to use AutoCAD efficiently. If you are new to AutoCAD, then read the first AutoCAD tutorial first.
The title bar
The AutoCAD title bar displays information that you need to use AutoCAD efficiently, such as the current drawing, the current view, and the units you are using in the drawing. You can change the font size to increase or decrease the
AutoCAD supports database creation and access, in the same way as the other 3D applications. It has many features to select and search objects using SQL queries, and they can be exported to and imported from other applications.
Communication and integration
AutoCAD operates as a plug-in architecture. Plugins are DLL files which contain the application’s implementation. Plugins can be deployed either dynamically or statically. Since AutoCAD uses its own DLL library, plug-ins can be developed for AutoCAD by a 3rd party as well as by Autodesk. A number of external programming languages are available for AutoCAD, including AutoLISP, Visual LISP, VBA, C++, C#, Visual Basic.NET, VB6, F#, Java,.NET, Delphi and, as of AutoCAD LT 2008, Basic..NET supports the COM standard and features the Windows Forms. AutoCAD LT 2008 allows COM scripting.
AutoCAD has a high-level programming language named AutoLISP (Auto-LISP), which is a dialect of LISP (List Processing) that can be used for writing functions, scripts and macros. AutoLISP is the default language for AutoCAD and can be used for developing add-ons, component functionality and scripts for use with AutoCAD.
AutoCAD also has a suite of programming languages called Visual LISP (VL), which is similar to AutoLISP. Some of the languages available for VL are:

AutoLISP was introduced in AutoCAD release 14.
Autodesk has also made it possible to use Microsoft Visual Basic for the Web in AutoCAD LT 2008. However, this support is currently restricted to parts of AutoCAD LT, only new components. Some components do not support this technology.
AutoCAD has a programming environment for creating macros. The macro editor is available in AutoCAD as well as in AutoCAD LT 2008. AutoCAD LT 2008 also allows creation of macros through the.NET programming environment.

“Pin to model” is now an editable drawing property, and is located on the Drawing Settings tab.
The use of “edit on demand” drawing features (such as the ability to use the Push/Pull tool to move shapes) may be restricted or turned off if you are using a 32-bit AutoCAD install, or if your drawing is too large (if such a configuration is supported).
The “show transform origin” command is now located on the Drawing menu.
The options available in the Draw option for Trim Styles are now consistent with the other Draw commands. The “Set Style” option to “Trim” is now available, if you want to override the drawing option for Trim Styles.

When hiding a duplicate object, the command now displays the number of duplicates.
The “Refresh Placement” and “Revert to original placement” commands are now recognized on shapes with a text style.
“Center on cursor” now works with objects that have a text style.
The “3D flip” tool is now displayed in 3D mode if the “3D modeling” mode is enabled, but the tool has not been specifically set to work in 3D mode.
